Everest Three Passes Trek is the ultimate high-altitude journey in some of the most beautiful alpine terrain on a major Everest trail and exploring the Khumbu region’s distinctive gems. Everest Three Passes Trek is suited for adventurers searching for a challenging trek in the Himalayas that includes crossing high mountain passes.

With views of panoramic mountains and varied landscapes, a breathtaking half-hour flight to Lukla is a fascinating starting for Three Passes Trek. Then we will begin our actual trek toward Phakding within a bank of fast-flowing Dudh Koshi river crossing numerous suspension bridges.

The initial portion of the trek takes you along the Bhote Koshi River through calm birch and Juniper forests. You’ll spend plenty of time in Namche Bazaar to acclimatize while learning about Sherpa culture, customs, cuisine, and hospitality.

Next, we head toward Thame where the trail separates from regular Everest Base Camp Trek. The trail becomes challenging onwards and we have to trek 6 hours a day. Enjoying the view of Kongde Peak we will reach Lumde. We travel through Renjo La Pass (5535m) first to come during Three High Passes Trek which leads us to Gokyo Ri and head to Gokyo where we acclimatize for the second time where you can visit Gokyo Lakes.

We will cross the glacier to reach Thaknak/Dragnag and cross Cho La Pass (5330m), the second high pass, and rest at Dzungla. We will now meet the regular Base Camp route to Lobuche. We will reach Everest Base Camp (5364m), and capture your moment in your eyes which never deletes.

An early morning hike to Kala Patthar can be truly fascinating but we have to head back to Lobuche. We will cross Kongma La Pass (5535m), the final pass with vibrant prayer flags and the view of a stunning panorama to heal our weary muscles and fragile mind. Explore the itinerary below for more detail.

What to expect during Everest Three Passes Trek

The Three Passes Trek route is marked. Traveling through Sagarmatha National Park in a thickly forested area due to the magnitude of the mountains. Renjo La Pass is typically regarded as the simplest, Cho La Pass demands you to traverse a glacier which makes microspikes essential, and Kongma La Pass is typically regarded as the hardest and longest.

Admittedly, based on the climate and other factors, this might all fluctuate. Upon the days you intend to cross each pass, it is advisable to get a head start to provide enough schedule not to face afternoon cold. For the majority of the duration, we are crossing a valley ascending and descending, and passing numerous suspension bridges.

The lateral moraine of the Khumbu glaciers is traversed on the way to Gorak Shep. Appreciate the view of Mount Pumori, Ama Dablam, Mahalangur, Lingtem, Khumbutse, and Nuptse with a 360-degree view of snow-capped mountains. This territory is dominated by the majestic Mount Everest with numerous other tall mountains.

Everest High Passes Trek route is surrounded by snow-capped mountains, including the formidable bizarre Mount Everest, as we get closer to Gorakshep. At Everest Base Camp, Nuptse, Khumbuste, and Pumori will greet us.

Is Three Passes Trek appropriate for you?

Three Passes Trek is considered one of the most challenging treks in Nepal, I must say in the world as crossing three high passes over 5,000m is not what an average person can achieve without any experience on the Himalayan Trail. If you like adventure and want to experience authentic and thrilling trails then Three Passes Trek is definitely for you.

Three Passes Trek is an enormous trail, passing with flying colors from temperate to snowline regions; trekking takes you through Rhododendron (the national flower of Nepal) and leafy pine forests, rivers, Sherpa communities, Buddhist monasteries, and numerous long suspension bridges. it will let you explore the structure of the Khumbu Region in detail with small parts of Sherpa villages and cultures, depending on the mountains.

Sagarmatha National Park holds this territory with 118 species of birds including Danphe (the national bird of Nepal) and habitats for rare animals like snow leopard, musk deer, red panda, etc. If you are a geography explorer or excited to explore nature and trek the toughest route, the Three Passes Trek will fulfill your needs and win your heart.

If you think of performing Three Passes Trek without a guide, then this could be a terrible idea. As you are walking in high-altitude terrain, an essential mountaineering experience is occasionally required. It is, however, subject to the trekking seasons and weather conditions.

How to prepare for Three Passes Trekking

Three Passes Trek needs extreme preparation to perform well and crossing slippery trails that are covered with chunks of snow makes your path even harder while crossing three passes. You need experience beforehand to perform the trek. Starting with a 3 km walk a day will prepare you for the normal trail to Everest.

The 20-day Everest Three Passes Trek is regarded as being more difficult than the Everest Base Camp Trek since you will spend 13 days above 3,500 meters and hike for 6 to 7 hours each day to traverse high passes. After you feel comfortable walking, you can consider a leg workout and hiking nearby hills. Carrying some weight can circulate your body flow and makes you active.

Participate in yoga and workout for cardiovascular and muscle strength, as well as walking every day, you must be in good physical condition. If you have experience hiking in high altitudes, it will be highly beneficial for you on this excursion.

Making mental preparations for your journey to Three Passes Trek is simple. Don't underestimate it either, even though you are just halfway up Everest. Your trek may be enjoyable with preparation, smart planning, and excellent guides and porters to carry your belongings.

Trip Details

Three Passes Trek Difficulty

Everest Three Passes Trek 20 days is one of the most challenging treks on Everest. Subsequently, it requests an elevated degree of actual wellness. Trekking agencies have rated this trek as Strenuous. Three Pass Trek is even harder than Everest Base Camp Trek and Gokyo Trek but not as tough as Island Peak and other Peak Climbing.

The Three Passes Trek's difficulty depends mostly on the path including tough terrain and high ascents. These locations are scary. The surface is rubble in certain spots. This trail has some difficult climbs in rocky hills with massive boulders.

There are several glaciers along the road, and you must cross a few of them. While the majority of glaciers are easy to traverse, there are a few that are difficult. The intense cold at high altitudes is additionally one of the major concerning issues during some lengthy altitude treks. Without adequate rest, high altitude can be exceedingly hard.

Since you’ll get three high passes 5,000 meters, you’re vulnerable to high altitude sickness or acute mountain sickness on this trek.

Henceforth, the master guides and field staff of the Lets Trek Himalayas will take special care of your requirements in the most effective way. Our group of specialists guarantees security and the memorable holiday of your life.

Food and Drinks during Three Passes Trekking

Lets Trek Himalayas takes Food and Drinks as the major concern, you need healthy meals and drinks throughout the Trek often tough to walk, and passing three high passes is a job to be done. we provide you best among the available cuisine and do not compromise your needs.

You will get all kinds of meals like Nepalese cuisine, continental, Indian, and International during the initial phase of your trek as you hike up the choices become fewer. The prices of the food also increase which is fixed by associations.

The most common dish served at Three Passes Trek is Dal Bhat. This hot lentil soup pleased everyone who hiked the trail. It is generally consumed with roti, bread, and rice.

You will also get fewer choices of cold drinks and Alcohol products during the trek and they are often expensive. We highly recommend you not to consume Alcohol, even cold drinks, and dairy products during the trek, we are not that strict, you can go for it when you are in major cities and low altitudes but do not overdo it.

Accommodation during Everest Three Passes Trek

The Three Passes Trek is an expert trail in the Khumbu region of Nepal from the most trekked trail in Nepal. Your accommodation in Kathmandu and other major cities is in 3-star Hotel with good facilities and amenities.

Best Season to Trek Everest with Three Passes

The optimum season for Three Passes Trek is during Spring (April to May) and Autumn season (September to November). Spring is considered the best season because this trail becomes the most glamorous with a clear sky, beautiful lush nature, and snow-blanketed mountains like Mount Everest glowing on top of the world.

The Autumn season changes the climate in Nepal and it starts to get normally cold, trekking during this season one can explore the Himalayan trail at its best with a snowy and horizon environment that represents the Himalayas.

Even though it has less consistent weather, the monsoon season (June to early September) is preferred by some trekkers since it works better with their vacation plans. it might snow and get very cold throughout the winter (December to February), so avoid the winter unless you are an expert mountaineer.

We operate Fixed Departure dates and prices for Three Passes Trek during the best season, so if you are confused about when to Book Three Passes Trek, choose the dates and Book your Trek as available in your schedule.

Variations of Everest Three High Passes Trek

In essence, there are two ways to accomplish the Three Passes Trek. We strongly advise you to complete the journey clockwise due to the steep ascent and ease of completion. our entire itinerary belongs on a clockwise approach.

The counter-clockwise path is difficult for most hikers to complete and necessitates their return in certain circumstances. The easiest part of the trek is passing Renjo La, where you get a straight-on view of the Gokyo lakes.

We do not recommend our travelers to approach the Counter Clockwise path because it can be dangerous as the trail is harder to climb and more chances to get in trouble. However, if you want adventure and that’s only what you are looking for our rustic adventurers will take you the route for that customize your Trip, and organize your itinerary.

Acclimatization during Everest Three Passes Trek

We will relax in Namche because trekkers and visitors must adjust to various topographies and climatic conditions. We'll take short treks all day long in and around Namche Bazaar. To admire the expansive vista of the Himalayas, we'll ascend to the Everest View Hotel.

Gokyo Acclimatization

In Gokyo Village, we will acclimatize for the second time, so to keep ourselves occupied, we'll embark on an expedition. The fourth Gokyo Lake, which is three kilometers north of Gokyo Village, can be a great experience with the turquoise green lake.

We'll keep going till we reach the sixth lake. A breathtaking visual feast awaits you from the Viewpoint, which is situated on the edge of the fifth lake. Experience during Three Passes Trek

Firstly, I was worried about the trek with my family, our experience during Everest Three Passes Trek was beyond the limit. Suman who was my Guide during the Trek was professional and he was dedicated to our wellness and satisfaction though the trek was difficult he encouraged us to go forward. Good Job and totally satisfied. Thank you Lets Trek Himalayas, Suman, and Sameer.
