Trip Details

Gokyo Lakes Trek Difficulty

Even without technical expertise, the breathtaking Gokyo Lakes Trek is fairly challenging and rated moderate by the trekking association. features an average daily walk of 5 to 7 hours. The trail is both a rewarding and moderately difficult walk in the Everest region.

The trail during the Gokyo Lakes trek is easily identified and simple to follow. You should be aware that the Gokyo lakes walk becomes less crowded than the well-known Everest Base Camp trek since relatively few people will be with you along the way. The path twists through several subsidiary valleys and high-altitude mountainous terrain. You ought to be in good physical and mental condition before starting this expedition.

Our Everest Gokyo Lake Trek package does not require advanced trekking expertise, although this is a moderately challenging trekking trail with an altitude of more than 5,000 meters, therefore you should be aware of the effects of acute mountain sickness (AMS).

Food and Drinks during Gokyo Lakes Trek

We certainly need a healthy diet and hygienic meals to maintain us robust and active for several days of trekking in the Khumbu region. Traditional Nepalese and Western cuisines are available on the menus of the lodges and tea houses along the Gokyo Lakes Trek. The quantity of every food is considerable despite the minimal selection of dishes relative to Kathmandu.

Our bodies require a healthy amount of diet items like protein and carbohydrates when we hike in the mountains to keep our physical performance for the trek. Anyone can quickly spot all of the listed items on the offered menu, which range from the traditional Nepalese cuisine to the regional Sherpa delicacies to the well-known foreign foods. Along with this, you may find famous meals like homemade bakeries, coffee, cakes, and other baked goods.

By your needs, the Tea House also provides vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free meals. Before the expedition, you must advise your native travel agency about these uncommon dishes so that they can instruct hotels and Tea House to take necessary preparations.

The normal bottle of tonic water is readily available in the Everest region's stores and tea houses, and there are plenty of freshwater resources along the route. While the water from spontaneous streams or watersheds is drinkable, it is safe to consume.

we suggest you buy a Lifetraw or water purification pills which are easily available in Kathmandu. Drink up to 4 liters of water a day to perform a trek without any issue as it also serves as a subsidiary to oxygen.

Accommodation while you Trek to Gokyo Lakes

The teahouses along the Gokyo Lakes trek are well-designed and generally comfortable, similar to those seen throughout the Khumbu region. There is a wide range of accommodations in this area, including hotels with heaters on the mattresses and hot showers that are comparable to those in Kathmandu.

Not every village, especially the smaller ones, might offer every type of lodging. The snowcapped lodgings are relatively basic tea hoses. Tea house provides the best service relative to height and distance. The most unforgettable element of your trek to the Gokyo lakes will be the warm room with good service, and the breathtaking window view at a high altitude.

For your comfort, the bed offers supportive mattresses, soft sheets, cozy blankets, and a pillow but the rooms normally have two to three single beds and an attached bathroom but not every time. A packing list as a sleeping bag for the Gokyo Lakes trek is therefore not essential but in winter they can add value.

You will find fewer accommodation establishments once you leave Namche and travel through the villages of Dole and Machhermo in the direction of the Gokyo lakes. During the peak season, due to fewer accommodation establishments, the rooms are often packed so, better prepare beforehand.

Best Season for Gokyo Lakes Trekking

The climate in the mountainous area is constantly changeable and unpredictable. The ideal seasons for hiking in mountainous terrain are spring and fall, so it's not constantly uncertain. Most trekkers choose to trek in the springtime (March to May) and autumn (September to November) to escape poor weather and uncertain climates.

In the spring, when you pass the trail through forests bursting with vibrant Rhododendron blossoms, the temperature is pleasant and it appears to be clearer allowing you to enjoy the stunning mountain vistas. Similarly, fall is the best season of the year for lush surroundings, clear views of the mountains, and chilly days.

In addition, Gokyo Lakes trekking throughout the monsoon and winter is feasible with the right instruction and security. Winter journeys are another option, and while they might be freezing and the paths can be covered in snow, there is an irresistible allure to seeing the Khumbu's grandeur alone.

Normally, we advise against undertaking the Everest Gokyo Lakes Trek in the summertime. We can never guarantee you a pleasant trekking experience during summer for any treks in Nepal.

Acclimatization for Everest Gokyo Lakes Trek

Namche Bazaar Acclimatization

You are trekking in the Everest region of Nepal and not acclimatizing in Namche Bazaar that sounds unrealistic right? Trekking’s initial part takes you to Namche Bazaar where you will see plenty of trekkers and backpackers hanging out to explore various routes of the Everest region.

As the altitude increases as you pass Namche Bazzar and enter Sagarmatha National Park. you must stay for a day at Namche Bazaar to endure your altitude capacity and perform your high-altitude trek portion smoothly. As trekking to high altitudes might be difficult and you have to return sometimes if you see symptoms of Acute Mountain Sickness.

Gokyo Acclimatization

To avoid getting acute mountain sickness while trekking at higher altitudes, you must frequently acclimatize. We'll do our second round of acclimatization in Gokyo Valley. Acclimatization at Gokyo can be enjoyable because you can choose to climb up to Gokyo Ri, a fantastic Everest Viewpoint.

We will take a short hike to Gokyo Ri and then fifth and Sixth lake which is easy and will give you energy for the next day and allow you to view your trekking from a new angle. Four of Nepal's highest peaks—Cho Oyu, Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu—can be seen.

Gokyo Acclimatization is not complete acclimatization but a day hike that is a must-go if you are doing a certain destination trekking like Gokyo Lakes and Gokyo Ri trekking.

Flight Information

Flight to Tenzing Hilary Airport, also known as Lukla Flight, is a well-known airport in Nepal's Everest region and is thrilling in and of itself. Your trip to Lukla may be canceled or delayed, so we have two options here: either drive to Ramechhap or fly to Lukla. We will begin our second day with a flight to Lukla.

Take advantage of your reserve day as the second option. While trekking in the Everest region, we advise adding a reserve day because flights to Lukla and Kathmandu might be canceled.
